The

New York Pipe Club's

Seventh Annual

Summer BBQ - Picnic

Saturday
August 22nd

Special Announcement ATTENTION, ATTENTION!!! It's time to do it again!  It is my pleasure to remind you of the New York Pipe Club's 2015 Summer BBQ - Picnic, our 7th Annual Event!!!  This year, please allow me to express, on behalf of the entire Club, our thanks and appreciation to long time and old time member, the "Keeper of the Leaf", himself, none other than, Charlie Pilnacek, who has graciously offered to host our annual pipe club BBQ get-together at his home in Lynbrook, Long Island, NY.  Last year's BBQ was a smash success and once again, we thank our beloved member, Hank Saatchi for his hospitality hosting the BBQ over the last number of years.  This year we head east to the southern shore of lovely Long Island!

The party is scheduled for...

Saturday, August 22nd

(Rain Date - 8/29)

PLEASE - RSVP BY ASAP

The Corn Cob Pipes and the BBQ get fired up on the 22nd - bring your appetite!

The festivities start at 1pm
and club will provide the comestibles and soft libations (that's food and soft drinks), of course if you'd like to bring a plate or dish of your favorite food or dessert, we won't mind!!!  Alcohol will be BYOB.

We want to take this opportunity to thank our beloved member Charlie, for hosting the event and we extend our appreciation for his gracious hospitality.

For our outing this year, of course, as always, pipe smoking is allowed, encouraged, and de rigueur!

In keeping with our tradition we will once again provide each attendee a free commemorative, stamped (if possible - but it doesn't look like it!) "NYPC Summer Cob 2015" Corn Cob Pipe, and I'm working on selecting something different for this year's pipe.  It has been suggested to me to obtain the following so here's what you can expect to be filling those cobs with:

Two blends from our Home Tobacconist, Nat Sherman...

We will have ample supplies of the Nat Sherman 85th Anniversary Blend created by our own, Chris McGrath and Dmitri Sassov and enjoyed by many of us at the 85th Anniversary Celebration recently.  The 85th Anniversary Blend consists of Virginia, Latakia and a good dose of Perique.  The Perique really stands out in the pouch but the blend really comes together wonderfully in the bowl.  This blend is delicious!

Thanks to another suggestion we will be taking care of all of the Club's aro smoker, thank you Bill, and we will have an ample amount of Nat Sherman's wonderful,  Blend #370, Spring Street, their master blend of cherry cavendish with the full, rich aroma and flavor of fresh-picked cherries..  Spring Street will satisfy the sweet tooth of any aromatic tobacco lover!

We will also enjoy some flake tobacco, thank you Dan, in those wonderful cobs!

Newminster No. 403 Superior Round Slices starts with a core of dark-fired Kentucky, around which premium flue-cured leaves are wrapped and spun into a rope. It's sliced into coins that are very easy to prepare. The flavor is typically sweet Virginia with an undertone that's spicy and slightly smoky - slightly on the full side of medium bodied.

 and...

Newminster No. 400 Superior Navy Flake is a solid, easy-smoking all-Virginia flake with the characteristic citrus and hay flavors that one would expect from a quality pressed Virginia. It's pleasant and enjoyable right now, and should age very well.

These tobaccos should match perfectly with the small bowls on the Indian Corn Cobs by Old Dominion.

For this year's event, it was suggested that we consider the "Chesapeake" model by Old Dominion Tobacco Co. and the Club has been promised that enough of them will be available.  We have been offered a really great discount on this model by our friends at Old Dominion and we appreciate that!  Old Dominion attended this years Chicago Show and I saw many, many pipe smokers with Old Dominion's cobs clenched in their teeth!  One consideration though, is that the stem looks a bit thin to be able get our nomenclature stamping onto, but if we can't figure it out, each attendee will still receive one fantastic looking and historic Corn Cob Pipe!!!  Here's a photo of what each attendee can expect - it is a small pipe but it is different:

We've been promised that enough of them are available!

As always, the party will start at 1pm, and detailed instructions and directions are included here for all attendees. BTW, Charlie's place is an easy drive for all of our members and friends from NY, NJ and PA so please do not let the change in venue location prevent you from joining us!!!  For those driving, see below for detailed directions for your convenience.  For those without cars, Charlie's place is very near to the Long Island Rail Road's Lynbrook Station, which can be accessed via Penn Station in NYC - see instructions below - and we can arrange to provide pick ups for you from the Lynbrook Station to Charlie's house, which is a short drive away.  If we know who is coming we'll also try to coordinate car-pooling.  Hank and "The Chief" have already volunteered their extra car space for those wishing to attend from NJ. - THANK YOU , BOTH!!!

MPORTANT: For those driving, we need you to bring a folding chair or two.  Charlie has a limited number of seats so additional seating would be be much appreciated.

And, may I remind you that, of course, if you'd like to bring a plate or dish of your favorite food or dessert, we won't mind!!!  Alcohol will be BYOB.

Free food, free 'baccy, a free cob - who wouldn't want to attend? Whether you can or you can't make it, please RSVP BY ASAP with a "Yes" or "No" to this email or call Lou at 347-886-9784 so that we'll have an idea of who is coming.
