Special Announcement - It's time to do it again!  Proving that he is as stubborn as he is handsome, our own beloved member Todd Platek has yet again graciously offered to host a pipe club get-together at his home in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey.  The party is scheduled for Saturday August 20th, and the club will provide the comestibles and soft libations (that's food and soft drinks).  Alcohol will be BYOB.

Of course, pipe smoking is allowed, encouraged, and de rigueur!

We'll be providing NYPC corn cob pipes once again this year - this time it will be the Diplomat model.  This is a smooth finished, natural colored full-sized cob and perfect for this year's tobacco theme - the new retro E. Hoffman blends, Spilman Mixture and Distinguished Gentleman.  But as always, the official NYPC 2011 Summer Picnic corn cob pipe will be available only to attendees!

Distinguished Gentleman, the newest E. Hoffman Pipe Tobacco, is an elegant & captivating pipe tobacco comprised of select choice leaf (Burley, Virginia, Toasted Cavendish and Cyprian Latakia), gently fragrant with an intoxicating Aroma. A classic crossover tobacco blended to satisfy the smoker while pleasing those around them.

Spilman Mixture is a classically complex English blend of Virginia, Latakia, Turkish and cubed Burley that hasn't been available for 70 years! The reinvention of this classic tobacco took years of research and development. Presented in a detailed recreation of the original can, right down to the replica tax stamp, Spilman Mixture features the coarse cut favored by pipe smokers in the last century, and an honest, straight forward tobacco flavor.

Free food, free 'baccy, a free cob - who wouldn't want to attend? But even if you can't make it, please RSVP yes or no to this email or call Peter at 212-570-3677 by July 31st so that we'll have an idea of who is coming. We need to know how much food and drink and cobs to buy so please let us know even if you aren't planning to attend the gathering.  Wives and children are also welcome.

The party will start at 1pm, and detailed instructions will be emailed to attendees before the date. Todd's place is an easy drive for our New Jersey members.  For those without cars, there is a Berkeley Heights stop on the Gladstone Line of NJ Transit, but if we know who is coming we'll try to coordinate car-pooling from New York.

For those driving, it would be great if you could bring a folding chair or two.  Todd has a limited number and most of us are too frail to stand up for very long.

This event is free for paid-up club members and their guests.  If you haven't paid 2011 dues, now would be a great time to do so via the website.  If you aren't sure whether you are a 2011 member, just ask!

This looks to be the pipe event of the social season, so don't miss it.  Mark your calendars, warn your spouses, and start choosing your best picnic pipes.  See you there!
