2014 Northeast Pipe Smoking Contest and Holiday Party (Kaywoodie Event)
Our great friend Bill Feuerbach has announced that once again he will host the 2014 “Kaywoodie Event”, to be held at a new location in Fishkilll, NY, on Saturday December 13th. Be sure to submit your check for $50.00, along with the application found below, which, if you are among the lucky, first 48, will also enroll you into the 2014 Northeast Pipe Smoking (Slow Smoke) Contest, a UPCA sanctioned event, as soon as possible, as it is sure to sell out, and it always does! Here is Bill's announcement along with all of the details, followed by the application:
Gentleman,
It is once again that time of year to begin planning the Holiday party
and Northeast Pipe Smoking Championship. However there is a big
change this year. Earlier this year S.M. Frank & Co (Kaywoodie), after
34 years in Peekskill, has moved to a newer but much smaller facility
in New Windsor, NY. While the new location is the perfect size for our
needs, we no longer have the extra space to hold the annual Holiday
Party.
Not wanting to just give up, members of the Hudson Valley Pipe Cub discussed several options for continuing to hold the event. The best alternative came about through the efforts of HVPC members, Dennis McMahon and Howie Rothstein. They are members of the Southern Dutchess and Putnam Sportsman's Association in Wappingers Falls, NY. Normally the gun club does not allow non-member events, so it took some convincing and as a result their efforts, the Board of Directors has agreed to let us using the facility for the day. The date is December 13th from 1pm until 8pm-ish. As you will see in the attached flyer, we will be collecting $10 per person with your registration as "rent" for the day. And anyone interested in selling pipes and tobaccos will have to send in a $20 fee per table. There will also be a 50/50 raffle that day as a fund raiser for SDPSA. The balance of the registration fee will go toward the food, beer, wine, soda and the contest pipe and tobacco.
The location is not too far off of Route 84 near the Fishkill exit, so
it will be about a half hour closer for the Boston guys and anyone
coming down from the Albany area or the north. It will be about a half
hour more for anyone who comes from NYC, NJ or points south. For the Pocono area guys it should be about the same distance, maybe a little less.
Please respond with the attached flyer as soon as possible so that we
can plan how many contest pipes to make and how much food we'll need.
We will set a deadline of December 1st for registration. Also any
pipemakers and others wanting to sell some pipes and tobaccos, please
respond to me as soon as you can by email so I can update the group
with who will be selling pipes that day.
I hope the change in venue will not affect the attendance too much. If
things work out well, we may have a home for this event for years to come. So please plan on attending. Hope to hear from you all soon.

Registration is $50. ($10 of which goes to the SDPSA for renting the facility for the day) We are going to have to limit the the number of contest participants to the first 48 registration forms returned. Fee includes your contest pipe, tobacco, and buffet. Since pipes will be made according to the number of people who have registered, no refunds can be considered.

**Please Note***In the event that we receive more than 48 registration forms, we will not turn anyone away. But those received after the first 48 will not be able to participate in the smoking contest, unless one of the first 48 chooses not to participate and relinquishes their spot and the pipe.
