Summer BBQ News…
Date Secured...
It’s that time of year again and we are going to try to pull off another BBQ. Many thanks to Charlie and Marie for offering to host it once again and to Delores for all of her help.
We are looking at Saturday, August 16th, avoiding Aug. 8-9 due to it being the dates for the Columbus (NASPC) Show and the last weekend, being Labor Day weekend. This date worked best for Charlie, Marie and Delores.
The Issue…
WE ARE ACCEPTING DONATIONS in order to have our BBQ.
We still need donations to be able to purchase the usual menu items. More details to follow in an email invite so be sure your email address is on our email list.
Appealing to your generosity, let's make it another great NYPC Event!!!

Also, there's a good possibility that we will be offering pipes from the storied, VERNON VIG, (may he Rest in Peace), Collection at the BBQ. We will confirm with the handler. Mr. Vig's pipes will be offered at a great discounted price to dues paying members, but offered for sale to all. It's a great opportunity to own and treasure a pipe from, in my opinion, the greatest and largest supporter and benefactor of the entire hobby. As I always say, he was my mentor and, if the late, great Tom Dunn (do you remember him?) was the "Patron Saint", (my designation), of our community, then Mr. Vig was what I like to call the "Ambassador" of our community to the world!
A Word From Your President...
Issues... although our monthly membership dues are completely voluntary, and a huge THANKS to all who have heeded the call, we continue to see a precipitous decline in monthly dues collection, which completely affects our ability to turn it back around for all of you.
Fortunately, we've been able to survive month to month paying the web hosting fees to continue ownership of the NY Pipe Club domain, however, it leaves little to use for events such as the BBQ.
Last year, our Summer BBQ was saved by a few extremely generous people, a few of whom don't even attend meetings due to distance.
This year we are in the same situation and need donations to pull it off.
Please read and consider...
If it were not for the generosity of some members who will remain anonymous, last year’s BBQ may not have happened, or at least in the format we are used to enjoying. I was considering going to a so-called, “Potluck” format whereby you’d bring your own, or extra food items, and that still might not be a bad idea. Monthly dues payments have seen a significant drop off since the days of Covid. In fact, several of our monthly meetings have suffered from poor attendance since then. I don’t quite know what to do about it. As far as dues, which are still voluntary, although, I don't really know what difference it would make to have them become mandatory, my main concern is to maintain the website which allows us to reach everyone with monthly newsletters and any significant news or events and to stay in communication. We have a Facebook and "X" page which are "free" but, realize that not everyone has social media exposure, yes, even today! At this point, we have enough funding to carry the website expense for the remainder of the year but that's it.
So, I urge you to consider paying the $25 dues payment, it really is an investment in YOUR club and what it allows us to do for YOU!

As always, I cannot thank Charlie and Marie, and Dolores, enough for hosting the event once again and for all the work Dolores voluntarily puts in to make it happen. Please be sure to extend many thanks to them when you see them. I'm sure we can pull through and make the BBQ another success.
