Special Announcement - ATTENTION, ATTENTION!!! It's time to do it again!  It is my pleasure to remind you, for the last time, about the New York Pipe Club's 2016 Summer BBQ - Picnic, our 8th Annual Event!!!  This year, please allow me to express, once again, on behalf of the entire Club, our thanks and appreciation to long time and old time member, the "Keeper of the Leaf", himself, none other than, Charlie Pilnacek, and his lovely wife, who have, once again, graciously offered to host our annual pipe club BBQ get-together at their home in Lynbrook, Long Island, NY.  Last year's BBQ was a huge success and we thank our beloved member, Charlie for his hospitality hosting the BBQ which was one of our biggest and best!  This year, like last, we head east to the southern shore of sunny Long Island!

The party is scheduled for...

Saturday, July 30th - Weather Looks Favorable

(Rain Date - 7/31)

***PLEASE - RSVP BY July 28th***

The Clay Pipes, yes Clays, and the BBQ get fired up on the 30th - bring your appetite!

The festivities start at 1pm
and club will provide the comestibles and soft libations (that's food and soft drinks), of course if you'd like to bring a plate or dish of your favorite food or dessert, we won't mind!!!  Alcohol will be BYOB.

We want to take this opportunity to thank our beloved member Charlie, for hosting the event and we extend our appreciation for his gracious hospitality.

And, here's a picture of Charlie (in the dark jacket) at our 2011 IPSD Celebration.  You old, old timers will recognize him.  Here also is the "keeper's case", his "Keeper of the Leaf" briefcase!

For our outing this year, of course, as always, pipe smoking is allowed, encouraged, and de rigueur!

In keeping with our tradition we will once again provide each attendee a free commemorative, stamped (if possible - but it doesn't look like it - sorry!) "NYPC Summer Clay 2016" Clay Pipe - a departure from the cobs and something different for this year's give-a-way pipe.

It had been suggested to me that perhaps we do clay pipes this time.  "Brother" Dan Silverstone had found a great deal on lots of 25 clay pipes and we'll be needing 2 lots just to be sure that we can provide one to every attendee, and I hope we can give away every one of them.  Dan pointed me in the direction of a clay pipe dealer.  So, I reached out to the seller of the lots and in the end, not only did he extend a wonderful deal to the Club, we made a new "Brother of the Briar", or clay, as it were, in the process!  Yes, the proprietor of the Old German Clay Pipe Co., Markus Fohr, called me from Germany and stated that he would be more than happy to support the Club.  He generously supports Pipe Clubs worldwide.  He is also a member of the United Pipe Clubs of America (UPCA) and has been to the great Chicago Show for many years!  Those of you who have been to the Chicago Show probably already know Markus.  We New Yorker's will recognize Markus' clay pipes hanging from the ceiling of the famous Keen's Chop House in NYC, the site of the very first, and ironically, the last, at that location (funny story, ask me about it at the BBQ), NY Pipe Club Monthly Meeting way back when!  What a wonderfully generous man!  Here's a couple of photos of Markus' clays hanging in the rafters at Keen's:

keens.  keens2  keens-steakhouse

Well, Markus was able to offer us a great deal on 50 clay pipes!  I hope that I am able to give out every one of them!  So, we will have 50 clay pipes awaiting the first 50 attendees to walk through Charlie's back yard gate!

The pipes have arrived safely and soundly from Germany and they are absolutely beautiful!  I can't wait to start handing them out to you!
Here's what you can expect:

Here's Markus!  We Owe Him a Huge THANK YOU!!!  Markus Fohr

Markus Fohr is a pipe maker who lives in Montabaur, Germany, about 70 Miles from Frankfurt, Cologne and Düsseldorf in the region of Westerwald.  His family has been making clay pipes for generations. He uses the fine white clay of the region which has been prized for centuries and is used to create the famous pottery of this region.
Some of the molds used are originals going back 240 years.

As always, the party will start at 1pm, and detailed instructions and directions are included here for all attendees. BTW, as you found out last year, Charlie's place is an easy drive for all of our members and friends from NY, NJ and PA so please do not let the venue location prevent you from joining us - that means you NJ Fellowship, Christopher Morley and Hudson Valley Clubs - and any other Clubs for that matter!!!  For those driving, plug Charlies address into your GPS or see below for detailed directions for your convenience.  For those without cars, Charlie's place is very near to the Long Island Rail Road's Lynbrook Station, which can be accessed via Penn Station in NYC - see instructions below - and we can arrange to provide pick ups for you from the Lynbrook Station to Charlie's house, which is a short drive away.  If we know who is coming we'll also try to coordinate car-pooling.

IMPORTANT: For those driving, we need you to bring a folding chair or two.  Charlie has a limited number of seats so additional seating would be much appreciated.

And, may I remind you that, of course, if you'd like to bring a plate or dish of your favorite food or dessert, we won't mind!!!  Alcohol will be BYOB.

Whether you can or you can't make it, please RSVP BY July 28th "Yes" or "No" to this email or call Lou at 347-886-9784 so that we'll have an idea of who is coming. Special Announcement - ATTENTION, ATTENTION!!! It's time to do it again!  It is my pleasure to announce the New York Pipe Club's 2016 Summer BBQ - Picnic, our 8th Annual Event!!!  This year, please allow me to express, on behalf of the entire Club, our thanks and appreciation to long time and old time member, the "Keeper of the Leaf", himself, none other than, Charlie Pilnacek, and his lovely wife, who have, once again, graciously offered to host our annual pipe club BBQ get-together at their home in Lynbrook, Long Island, NY.  Last year's BBQ was a huge success and once again, we thank our beloved member, Charlie for his hospitality hosting the BBQ which was one of our biggest and best!  This year, like last, we head east to the southern shore of sunny Long Island!

And here's a group shot of last year's event - what a success!!!
2015 NYPC BBQ Group Shot

The party is scheduled for...

Saturday, July 30th

The Corn Cob/Clay (undecided) Pipes and the BBQ get fired up on the 30th - bring your appetite!

The festivities start at 1pm
and club will provide the comestibles and soft libations (that's food and soft drinks).  Alcohol will be BYOB.

We want to take this opportunity to thank our beloved member Charlie, for hosting the event and we extend our appreciation for his gracious hospitality.

For our outing this year, of course, as always, pipe smoking is allowed, encouraged, and de rigueur!

In keeping with our tradition we will once again provide each attendee a free commemorative, stamped (if possible - but it doesn't look like it!) "NYPC Summer Clay/Cob 2016" Corn Cob Pipe or Clay Pipe (undecided), as I'm working on selecting something different for this year's pipe.  It has been suggested to me that perhaps we do clay pipes this time.  "Brother" Dan Silverstone has found a good deal on lots of 25 and we'll be needing 2 lots just be sure that we can provide one to every attendee.  Here's what you might expect:

Don't Drop 'em!!!
Also, in keeping with tradition, I'm looking to come up with a theme for this year's event, as we have tried to match pipe and tobacco with some sort of theme over the last seven years and I'm hoping you can help me with some suggestions.

We'll need to be sure enough of them are available and then we'll need an appropriate tobacco selection to pair them with, so please help out your president and fire off some suggestions to me as soon as you are able!

As always, the party will start at 1pm, and detailed instructions and directions will be emailed to attendees in a separate mailing very shortly. Charlie's place is an easy drive for all of our members and friends from NY, NJ and PA as many of you found out last year, so please do not let the venue location prevent you from joining us - that means you Christopher Morley and Hudson Valley Club Members!!!!

For those driving, we will provide detailed directions and maps for your convenience.  For those without cars, Charlie's place is very near to the Long Island Rail Road's Lynbrook station and we can arrange to provide pick ups for you from the station to Charlie's house, which is a short drive away.  If we know who is coming we'll also try to coordinate car-pooling.

IMPORTANT: For those driving, we need you to bring a folding chair or two.  Charlie has a limited number of seats so additional seating would be much appreciated.

BTW, this event is free and is made possible by your voluntary dues payment of $25 per year.  If you haven't paid your 2016 dues, now would be a great time to do so via the website, mailing a check or by seeing Lou. If you aren't sure whether you are a 2016 member, just ask!

This looks to be yet another great pipe event of the social season, so don't miss it.  Mark your calendars, warn your spouses, and start choosing your best picnic pipes.  See you there!
More details will follow in future emails as we get closer, so just mark the date and please stay tuned!
As always...   All Are Welcome!!!
PLEASE BEGIN TO RSVP AS SOON AS YOU KNOW IF YOU WILL BE ATTENDING - BY JULY 15th SO WE CAN START TO PLAN FOR ENOUGH FOOD AND BEVERAGE FOR ALL!!!
