Sailorman Jack Sea Shanty Music Links
From Mei Clover:
From a 1985 cassette purchased from Jack at Grand Central Station in NYC. Laurence Koback (Oct. 6, 1938 – Apr. 20, 2006) better known as Sailorman Jack, was a subway performer from New York. He was often seen performing sea shanties in Manhattan subway stations, accompanying himself on guitar. In 1989, he ran for mayor as a write-in, being the sole member of the Third Rail Party, with hopes to dismantle the MTA and remove subway fares (My personal hero!). In the mid-70’s, he co-founded (and was the first president of) the New York Pipe Club, and created his own tobacco blends. Jack was very active on pipe smoker message boards and news groups. He passed away from multiple cancers on Apr. 20, 2006 in Columbus, Ohio. An engraved zippo lighter was created in his memory. “Fair Winds and Following Seas”.
